Determining the culture within a company can be difficult yet it underlies the way an organisation’s strategy and operations are formulated. The FRC issued a report in 2016 calling for boards to “assess and monitor” cultural ethos and take action if necessary. This article considers the issues and a methodology of both measuring and changing company values.

Given my work with SME organisations, I'm not surprised that they score higher on the drivers of culture than large businesses. It is surprising that they score consistently higher on all factors.

Having cultural factors as part of the recruitment and employee onboarding processes is an important step to continue as a business grows, however, it seems this alone is not sufficient.

 
Also, larger organisations are less prone to including employee contributions to the development of strategy and goals so there becomes a disconnect in these organisations.

Implementing regular and more frequent communication around strategy and culture would help as well as team leaders and functional heads including all levels of staff in pre planning for quarterly planning meetings.

A very good article.  All organisations should be able to demonstrate their culture and live by their values in all that they do.  Working in Education for the past 15 years and now being part of the Senior Leadership Team it would be very interesting to undertake an employee survey of our culture and values to understand our staff views.  I would say my staff would confirm that I live by the College values and ethics and this is embedded throughout all actions the senior management undertake and this is then cascaded down to all the different sectors and teams.
